R&D Engineering

Providing innovative solutions to complex problems!

At VM Products, no challenge is too big or too small. Pictured above is Dave winding a 16” Bobbin coil to be used in a pipeline application. The instrument is located inside the coil!

Below are gears cut with our Agie Charmilles wire machine.

Over the last five years, VM Products has assembled a dedicated team of technical personnel second to none in the NDT community. This engineering team has spearheaded aggressive growth into new markets and applications through applied research and development. Contract R&D has become the major new growth area for the company as personnel specialize in the development of entire test systems including instrumentation and robotics.

As a small business, VM Products is interested in Research and Development projects in the Eddy Current and Bond Testing disciplines. We are presently researching several SBIR’s and STTR’s related to:

   Single and Multi-layer corrosion detection

   Single and Multi-layer crack detection

Large area scanning for both Eddy Current and Bond Testing

   C-scan and three dimensional mapping

   Defect location and sizing

   Multi-Channel, Multi-Frequency & Array technologies

Titanium sleeved T5 Array probe. The array coils are placed in tandem with VM's ultrasensitive bobbin coils for unprecidented and unequaled flaw detection in finned heat exchanger tubing. The T5 probe ignores the geometry change from the finned to the land region and finds the flaw every time with shark fin clarity!

VM Products has leveraged its technologies through strategic relationships with leading NDT companies to offer the best of the best in Eddy Current NDT solutions.

VM Products' technical staff have over 100 years combined in NDT experience. Not only are we experts in aerospace NDI, but we also have considerable expertise in tubing and industrial applications. We can also custom machine your designs. Contact us with your application. - sales@vmproducts.net

Dave Brown joined VM Products as the Engineering Manager in January 2004. Dave received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University. He has spent more than 24 years in the NDT field, primarily involved with application and development of electromagnetic test equipment. He holds five electromagnetic patents and has two more pending. Dave has authored six formal publications in the field of eddy current testing.

Chris Hils earned his BS in Physics from East Carolina University. He received his Master of Applied Physics and Computer Science degree from Christopher Newport University, where his thesis topic was “Investigation of a Superconductive Sensor for Electromagnetic NDE”. Chris is currently involved in Finite Element Modeling of Electromagnetic systems, LabView Software Development, System Specification Development and System Integration. He has three patents with one more pending and has co-authored several papers on Massively Multiplexed Eddy Current Technique. Chris has been involved with eddy current product development for over 15 years.
